I wonder what cat meat tastes like

So, I come home and decide to tackle the mess in my living room. Sunday. Might do me good to be productive.

So, when I'm cleaning, I have to have music. I even put together a little mix on itunes just for the purpose.

But where do i set my laptop while I'm cleaning?

A-HA! On the work table next to the kitchen. PERFECT!!

So, I've been working, what, 3 minutes? And I hear a loud CRASH and my music stops playing.

And there I see my laptop on the ground.

My cats thought it would be fun to play chase and when one of them jumped up on the table, putting her weight on the edge of the laptop, it fell to the floor.

So I pick up the laptop and turn it back on...

and there it is. my screen is cracked. And when I say cracked I dont mean just a little corner is broken. I'm talking LCD masacre.

New lcd screens run about $350. I bought the laptop for like $350. So, yeah. I don't know what to do.

Tomorrow I'll take it to my ex husbands, hook it up to his monitor and see if I can get the laptop to run off that. Then I just have to pay to get interwebs at my house ($50 I owe plus $100 deposit since, ya know, couldnt pay it before) so I can, ya know, WORK since I cant lug my laptop and a crt screen to coffee shops around town.

Didn't we go to high school together?

So, I'm sitting at one of my local coffee shops, doin work, browsing sg, enjoying some coffee and a blueberry muffin.

And all of a sudden, the sound of a male voice yelling something, obviously angry, pours forth from the bathroom. Everyone turns to look.

less than a minute later, the door opens and out walks a man, maybe in his late 20s, dressed in blue jeans, t-shirt and blue poncho.

His face is beet red and his brow furrowed. and as he is walking out the door, he points at me and shouts "FUCK YOU".

So either he's just crazy...

...or he knows me very well.

Old Boyfriends

I first knew I was in love with him, riding in his white Dodge from San Antonio to Austin. Mothers day, 1997. Tom Waits’ “Small Change” on the tape player. Windows rolled down due to a busted air conditioner. I had on navy blue, calf length pencil skirt and a white button down shirt. He had on those black pants I always told him he looked nice in.

I have loved him every single day of my life since then. One marriage, one divorce, several moves, far too many nights of drinking way too much, 4 day jobs, countless failed relationships (for both of us), and 7 pairs of black Chuck Taylors' later, he is still there. He still hugs me hard, holding 6 ½ seconds longer than anyone else does. He still smiles when he says “Love you” when we part. He still kisses me firmly on the lips. He still sings those songs I’ve come to know like family. But, knowing you love someone and knowing you should be in a romantic relationship with someone don’t always go hand in hand, after all.

And it is like this every time I am around him. Our first hellos after a long absence is always akward.

“How are you”

“Doing well. You look good”

“So do you”

. .

“I’m gonna go get a beer”

And like I’ve grown to expect, we realize we are shy for no reason. Tonight, like every other night, is not going to be the night where we ask each other what went wrong. It is not the night to explain emotions and ideas because they never needed explaining in the first place. Tonight, like every other night is just a joy to have the other one around. Funny how, even after 8 years, we forget that every time.

He still drives that Dodge and still looks good in those pants

Happy new year, ya'll.

my new years evening consisted of

tequila

bbq

singing "pasties and a g-string" at Headhunters with the band.

unknowingly calling my friend aaron because there was someone in my phone listed as "MAaron" and I had to find out who it was.

deciding that our group of people should form a gang ala The Warriors.

getting a wonderfully cute photo of me taken by my friend Tim (If you live in Austin and frequent downtown, you know the guy with the old time polaroid camera who always dresses in the awesome vintage suits? thats tim)

Making pretty shitty guacamole at 3am and realising that even shitty guac is still pretty good.

Waking up in a house full of friends to start my 2006.
